“The Revenant” was the most-popular movie in North America this weekend, with an estimated $16 million dollar in ticket sales.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” was number two, with $14.3 in ticket sales estimated by the studio, according to Rentrak.
Third place was held by “Ride along 2,” with $13 million in estimated sales.
Three premieres opened to smaller gates: “Dirty Grandpa” in fourth place with $11.5 million, “The Boy” in fifth with $11.3 million, and “The 5th Wave” was in sixth place at $10.7 million.
Rounding out the top 10 movies in the United States and Canada, as estimated by the studios and gathered by Rentrak, were “13 Hours: The Secret” ($9.8 million), “Daddy’s Home” ($5.3 million), “Norm Of the North” ($4.1 million) and “The Big Short” ($3.5 million).
