The Way to Happiness Foundation Cleans Up Santa Monica Beach

Volunteers of
Santa Monica – Volunteers of “The Way to Happiness Foundation” rolled up their sleeves in the blazing sunshine as they ventured to the beach to pick up litter last Saturday. Armed with gloves, they removed 24 bags of rubbish, this way putting into action one of the 21 precepts written down by L. Ron Hubbard in the booklet The Way to Happiness, “Safeguard and improve your environment.”

According to the City of Santa Monica, the gigantic amount of trash has been a problem for years and every year as much as 4,000 tons of trash is collected from the Santa Monica Bay Beaches, costing a yearly amount of $541,000 to the community. This was reason enough for 25 young volunteers to put on their “The Way to Happiness” shirts and go into action. No single piece of rubbish was safe from their quick hands and after a couple of hours of intense work the beach looked spick and span again.

The volunteers not only cleaned up the beach, they also distributed over 3, 000 of The Way to Happiness booklets to people on the beach. This booklet is a nonreligious moral code, based on common sense, containing 21 precepts that encourage people of every race, color and creed to improve their own life and the lives of those around them. Humanitarian L. Ron Hubbard wrote it to halt the moral decay of the current society.

“The beach looked disgusting,” stated Nick Mouser, one of the organizers of this beach clean up. “I was shocked to see the amount of trash that was left behind on the beach. We even picked up diapers and condoms. But we wanted to do something more than just a big cleaning, so we also gave out booklets to make people more aware of their responsibility in keeping their beach clean. From the positive reactions we got from the public, we can conclude this was very successful!”

The Way to Happiness Foundation was founded in 1984 to put a stop to the social decline of society by restoring trust and honesty around the world. So far, the organization has distributed over 78 million copies of The Way to Happiness in 90 languages in 135 countries.
