A man and a girl who led police on a chase that began in Beverly Hills are in custody after they bailed out of a stolen sedan and fled into a home near the Hillcrest Country Club.

The chase began about 8:30 a.m. Wednesday, when officers went to investigate a report of a suspicious vehicle in the 100 block of North Swall Drive, near Wilshire Boulevard, according to Beverly Hills police Lt. Lincoln Hoshino.

The car was located in an alley, but the driver sped off as officers approached and a chase ensued, winding through narrow residential streets and leading to a collision with another vehicle near Doheny Drive and Burton Way.

The female driver of the other vehicle sustained a minor injury in the crash, Hoshino said.

Despite front-end damage to the suspects’ car and the deployment of its air bags, they continued to flee, Hoshino said.

“Because of the high speeds and reckless driving by the suspect running red lights and stop signs without slowing down, officers decided to fall back,” Hoshino said.

A television news helicopter followed the car to the 1500 block of Roxbury Drive, near Pico Boulevard, in the Cheviot Hills section of Los Angeles, where the suspects jumped out in a private driveway and fled on foot, Hoshino said.

“In an attempt to evade police, the suspects forced entry into an occupied residence,” Hoshino said. “Police were able to evacuate two children and their mother from that home.”

As officers searched the home, the suspects fled and were apprehended by a police dog, Hoshino said.

Arrested were Ramiziddin Rasheed, 36, and a girl whose name police initially disclosed when investigators thought she was 19, but was withdrawn when it was discovered she is a juvenile, Hoshino said. Both she and the man are transients, he said.

Rasheed was booked on suspicion of burglary, receiving stolen property, grand theft auto, evading police, obstructing police and felony hit-and-run. His bail was set at $175,000, Hoshino said.

Investigators learned that the car — a 2015 Toyota Camry — was reported stolen out of La Habra. Hoshino said the duo allegedly obtained the keys by burglarizing a gym locker before taking the sedan from the gym parking lot.

“During a subsequent search of the stolen vehicle, a large amount of stolen property from numerous crimes was recovered,” Hoshino said.
