A UCLA football player was arrested on suspicion of rape stemming from an alleged attack last year, authorities said today.
Bruins sophomore punter Adam Searl, 20, was arrested Thursday and booked on suspicion of three counts of rape, Los Angeles police Officer Jack Richter said.
Bail was set at $300,000, and Searl was released late Thursday night, according to the sheriff’s department. He was tentatively scheduled to appear in court Oct. 29 at the Airport Branch Courthouse, according to the sheriff’s department.
Richter said Searl is accused of raping a woman in 2014, and his arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the LAPD and UCLA campus police. No other details of the alleged assault were immediately released.
Searl has punted five times this year for the Bruins, averaging 39 yards per kick.
