On October 7, The Pepperdine University Graduate School of Education and Psychology (GSEP) celebrated the inauguration of its Urban Initiative with a reception and program hosted by the Director of Education and Workforce Development at the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and UNITE-LA, Alma Salazar, at the Union Rescue Mission in Los Angeles.
Created by the GSEP as an umbrella program, the Urban Initiative aims at providing education and mental health professionals with the necessary skills to work in culturally and ethnically diverse urban communities for the long-term. The program was established to develop a national model for preparing such professionals to work effectively in underserved urban communities across the country.
