Vice President to Visit LA to Attend ESPY Awards

LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Vice President Joe Biden will make a brief visit to Los Angeles today to attend the ESPY Awards.

Biden will be in San Diego earlier in the day, speaking at the 10th Avenue Marine Terminal to tout the record of President Barack Obama’s administration on trade enforcement.

He is expected to say the administration has brought more trade enforcement cases at the World Trade Organization since 2009 than any other WTO member, and has won all the cases that have been decided, according to Biden’s office. The victories have helped remove trade barriers and increase export opportunities worth billions of dollars to American workers, farmers, and businesses, his office said.

Following his remarks in San Diego, Biden will travel to Los Angeles. During this evening’s Espy Awards ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles, Biden will present the Jimmy V Perseverance Award to Turner Sports broadcaster Craig Sager.

Sager, known for the gaudy suits he wears while working the sidelines of NBA games, is being honored for his continued work while battling leukemia.

After presenting the award, Biden is expected to leave Los Angeles, bound for Honolulu, Hawaii, for a trilateral meeting with Japanese Foreign Minister Shinsuke Sugiyama and South Korean First Vice Foreign Minister Lim Sung-nam.

Although Biden’s visit will be brief, Los Angeles police warned motorists that some streets could be affected to accommodate his motorcade. Police recommended that motorists avoid the following areas today:

— from 4 to 5:30 p.m., the area around Imperial Highway between Vista Del Mar and Sepulveda Boulevard, and the area around Figueroa and Flower streets between Third Street and Wilshire Boulevard;

— from 6 to 7:30 p.m., the area around Flower Street between Fourth Street and Venice Boulevard, the area around Pico Boulevard between Hope Street and the Harbor (110) Freeway, and the area around L.A. Live Way between Pico and Olympic boulevards; and

— from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., the area around Chick Hearn Court between the 110 Freeway and Figueroa, and the area around Imperial Highway between Vista Del Mar and Sepulveda.

A portion of Fourth Street will be closed between Figueroa and Flower streets on the north side of the Westin Bonaventure hotel between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.
