Westfield Century City Partners with LACMA

The partnership will allow Westfield to exhibit select pieces from the museum on a long-term basis.

Westfield Corporation and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) have formed a new multi-year partnership that will allow Westfield to exhibit select pieces from the museum on a long-term basis at Westfield Century City.

Initially, three sculptures will be unveiled at Westfield this fall, alongside the reopening of the mall following Westfield’s two-year, billion dollar renovation. The pieces will be: Woods Davy’s Toluca; Jene Highstein’s Eolith I; and Michael Todd’s Daimaru XI. Mall goers will be able to see the sculptures at some of the property’s most prominent locations.

Westfield stated that there may be additions to the display, which would be announced further down the line.

“At Westfield, we are passionate about bringing art into our communities and giving everyone the chance to see and be inspired by truly great work,” said Heather Vandenberghe, Westfield’s chief marketing officer in the United States. She added, “We are tremendously grateful to LACMA for enthusiastically sharing this vision, and can’t wait to give our customers a chance to experience incredible pieces of art close-up and in an entirely new way.”

LACMA CEO and Wallis Annenberg Director Michael Govan said in a statement, “LACMA is thrilled to partner with Westfield Century City this fall. As a County museum for County residents, LACMA is committed to engaging with and being a resource for all residents and communities of Los Angeles.” He went on to say, “This partnership is a continuation of our longstanding practice of bringing programming and exhibitions into communities, and is also an exciting opportunity for the museum to share its permanent collection in a special way.”

The mall’s new outdoor plazas and courtyards – designed by Westfield in collaboration with Kelly Wearstler – are inspired by Southern California’s mid-century modern style. Central to the new design is an 18,000 square foot atrium and events space, creating a new performance venue for the Westside.
