Westside Pavilion Macy’s to Become 230,000 Square Foot Office Complex

$180 million development next to separate Google campus underway

By Sam Catanzaro

The former Westside Pavilion Macy’s department store will soon become a 230,000 square foot office campus that will transform the block alongside a separate Google campus underway in a separate part of the failed-mall.

The former Westside Pavilion was once one of Los Angeles’ premier shopping malls, but in recent years had fallen behind to competition as shopping centers like Westfield Century City and the Grove have gone through renovations and the Rick Caruso’s Palisades Village has opened its doors.

In 2017, the Westside Pavilion Macy’s closed and acquired by Los Angeles-based developer GPI companies, who recently begun a $180 renovation of the three-story building on the corner of Pico Boulevard and Overland Avenue. The development, called the West End, will include 230,000 square feet of leasable space, with floor-to-ceiling glass windows wrapping the structure’s exterior and a courtyard to provide the building with natural lighting. HLW International is the project’s designer.

“We expect that the design will enhance productivity and create an authentic and welcoming environment that is in such high demand by today’s leading creative and financial companies,” said Sejal Sonani, Design Principal at HLW in a news release. “Authenticity and the tenant experience are at the very core of our design for West End. By bringing in sunlight, creating flexible work environments, and incorporating indoor and outdoor spaces, we are creating the next generation of workplace in West LA.”

The West End is expected to be completed in early 2021, a year before Google is expected to move next door into a 584,000 square foot office campus called One Westside.
