Attempted backpack robbery in area of Veteran and Weyburn this week

A man attempted to steal the backpack and shoes from a person walking on the street in Westwood this week, the second such incident to take place in the area the past month.
According to the UCLA Police Department, on April 27 around 1:15 p.m. the the suspect approached the victim on the 1000 block of Veteran Ave and demanded her backpack multiple times.
“The suspect unsuccessfully attempted to remove the victim’s backpack and shoes in an aggressive manner. The suspect eventually fled the area,” UCLA police said. “This incident is currently under investigation.”
UCLA police describe the suspect as a Hispanic male, 5’10”, skinny build, black backwards baseball cap, sunglasses on forehead, black face mask with white skeleton face, wearing a red shirt, grey backpack, and blue jeans.
The victim was not affiliated with UCLA.
This is the second such incident to take place in the area the past month.
According to the UCLA Police Department, on April 5 around 2:30 p.m., the suspect approached the victim, a UCLA staff member, in the area of Veteran Avenue and Weyburn Drive and demanded his backpack multiple times in an aggressive manner.
“The suspect attempted to remove the backpack off of the victim and eventually fled with the victim’s backpack,” UCLA Police said.
