Owner of property at 1555 S. Westwood seeks to demolish buildings
By Dolores Quintana
Two commercial buildings on Westwood Boulevard may be demolished to make way for 50 units of multifamily housing.
The owner of the property at 1555 S. Westwood, Sherwin Aryeh, has applied to demolish the two single commercial buildings currently on the site to build a six story, 50 unit residential building as reported by Urbanize Los Angeles. The new building would contain 50 studio, one and two bedroom apartments with an underground parking lot that would contain 38 vehicle parking spaces. The proposed development is taller than zoning ordinances in the area allow so Aryeh has also applied for Transit Oriented Communities (TOC) incentives to make the development possible. Of course, the complex would be required to set aside 5 units as extremely low income housing in exchange for the TOC incentives.
Sam Ghanouni is the designer and the designs use the very popular podium style apartment building with wood and plaster as the exterior. According to Urbanize Los Angeles, the plans call for tiered roof lines at the rear of the property that would transition the building’s height more gradually against the heights of the other properties in the neighborhood and provide potential open spaces for tenants. A rooftop deck would sit on the rooftop overlooking Westwood Boulevard.
