A woman who was critically injured in a hit and run at a South Los Angeles bus stop, where her husband was killed, died at a hospital today, authorities said.
The crash was reported about 6:40 p.m. Monday in the 400 block of West 54th Street, near the Harbor (110) Freeway, where a car collided with a Range Rover that then careened into the bus stop, police said.
Florenio Evangelista, 78, of Los Angeles died at a hospital a short time afterward, said coroner’s Assistant Chief Ed Winter. His wife, Cristeta Evangelista, 76, died at a hospital about 1:45 a.m. today, Winter said. A third person was taken to a hospital in unknown condition.
The victims were sitting at the bus stop when the driver of the Range Rover made a right turn into a nearby driveway and was struck by the suspect vehicle, said Los Angeles police Officer Mike Lopez said. The driver of the Range Rover remained at the scene.
After the crash, the driver of the car that hit the Range Rover got out and ran off, leaving the vehicle behind, Lopez said. Anyone with information on the case was urged to call (877) LAPD-247.
