A woman dropped her negligence suit in which she alleged Jennifer Lopez and her former boyfriend were responsible for a dog attack in Hidden Hills last year.
An attorney for plaintiff Andrea Ashley filed court papers last Tuesday with Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elia Weinbach requesting dismissal of her case. The documents did not state whether a settlement was reached or if Ashley was not pursuing the case for other reasons.
The suit, filed Feb., 13, stated that Ashley, a neighbor of Lopez and Beau “Casper” Smart, was getting out of her car last Dec. 6 on a street adjacent to where the defendants lived. Smart’s dog, Bear, escaped through a front gate and “mauled” Ashley’s left arm and hand, causing a bone fracture and lacerations, the suit alleged.
Bear also tried to attack Ashley during the spring of 2014, but he was pulled away by Ashley’s gardener, who took the animal back to the Lopez/Smart home and told the domestic staff there about the alleged attack, the suit stated.
Smart, wearing pajamas, came out of his home and apologized to Ashley, according to the lawsuit.
Smart, 28, called Ashley later that day, apologized again and said he would pay for her medical bills, the suit stated.
“This should never have happened, I just feel awful,” Smart stated, according to the complaint.
The 46-year-old Lopez’s lawyers sent Ashley a letter stating that Bear was owned by Smart and that he had complete responsibility for the dog’s actions, the suit stated.
