Two Others and a Pet Cat Escaped Unharmed
An unidentified woman suffered serious burns Monday afternoon after a kitchen fire broke out in a Beverly Grove apartment, authorities said.
Los Angeles Fire Department crews responded just after 3:20 p.m. to a residence in the 300 block of South San Vicente Boulevard, where heavy smoke was reported. Three occupants and a pet cat were able to escape the unit before firefighters arrived, officials said.
Paramedics treated a 30-year-old woman at the scene and transported her to a nearby hospital in serious condition.
Preliminary reports indicated the fire may have been sparked by a malfunctioning microwave. Investigators with the LAFD’s Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section are working to determine the official cause.
