International Special Attractions, Ltd. based in Shanghai with its U.S. headquarters in Century City, is once again creating a holiday extravaganza like no other aptly called “CHILL” under the guidance of its energetic and creative CEO and President Haiping Ge. The extravaganza runs for a limited engagement at the site of the Queen Mary in Long Beach that opened Nov. 20, 2015.
CHILL offers unforgettable experiences. CHILL transforms over two million pounds of sparkling ice into larger than life hand carved colorful ice sculptures in a giant Igloo called “The Ice Kingdom,” located inside the Queen Mary’s Dome, once home to Howard Hughs’ legendary Spruce Goose.
This year “The Ice Kingdom” brings Charles Dickens’ classic tale “A Christmas Carol” to life with Ebenezer Scrooge and the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Present and Yet to Come frozen in glistening ice. Walk-through dazzling scenes from the Nutcracker complete with castles and sugar plum fairies. Get lost in the life size candy cane forest and explore the penguin village.
Slip down ice slides off of a 30’ high replica of The Queen Mary and enjoy a festive cocktail at the all-new ice bar aboard the ship’s frozen bow.
Each ice exhibit is precisely hand sculpted and created by an international team of expert ice carvers from Harbin, China and enhanced with LED lighting to create a visually awesome experience. The Ice Kingdom is kept at a frosty nine degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the ice. Guests receive parkas to help protect them from the chilling Artic-like climate.
The 4th annual CHILL welcomes back Glacier Glide Ice Tubing with six lanes of glistening ice slides standing two stories tall and 100-feet long in front of the Ice Kingdom. Ice skate under the stars on the 6,000 square-foot ice skating rink with the backdrop of the picturesque Queen Mary ship.
A holiday village offers visits with Santa Claus, holiday carolers, snow days and live festive entertainment as well as food and drinks.
The production entity International Special Attractions, referred to as “ISA”, was the first company to bring Chinese acrobats to Broadway and also produces Cirque Shanghai which has performed in some of the most prestigious venues in the world. ISA has also produced events in affiliation with The Walt Disney Company, The Queen Mary and Six Flags, Inc., among others and has been featured in television coverage internationally including the NBC, CBS and ABC television networks.
Originally from a classical music background, ISA’s CEO and President Haiping Ge was one of the earliest producers serving in the Shanghai government’s Office of Cultural Exchange Affairs. From that office he hosted many of the first Western entertainers performing in China. For the last two decades, Ge has been producing shows for the world’s premium venues.
ISA has become a world leader in the production of large scale special attractions, events and theatrical productions. Among them are the mesmerizing “Cirque Shanghai” at Chicago’s Navy Pier and the visually stunning “Chill” at the Queen Mary site in Long Beach.
