Third Wheel will they present the second annual Wine & Wheels on Sunday, June 5, 2011 at 4 p.m. Featured in 2010 as LA Weekly’s Classical Music pick of the week, a Wine & Wheels event combines cutting-edge music with hand-selected wines for the ultimate sensory pairing. Innovative woodwind trio Third Wheel performs exclusive, new music written by local, living composers while audience members sample gourmet wine and interact with performers and composers.
This year’s installment will have more new music, more local composers and a big announcement: Beginning in the fall of 2011, Wine & Wheels will not be just an annual event, but also a full season of chamber music concerts that will feature a wide array of the area’s top chamber music ensembles.
Artisan wine and slow-food enthusiasts Fancifull Gift Baskets will once again open up their intimate and welcoming performance space, adjacent to the shop’s Hollywood showroom.
The musical selections will include world premieres from local composers. Pacific Symphony hornist Jim Taylor has written a new piece for the occasion, and film composer Seth Shafer has created a new arrangement.
Third Wheel will also premiere SFNewMusic member Kyle Hovatter’s trio “Geary Noctivagant,†which is dedicated to the group. Angelenos Adrienne Albert, known for her “whimsy and playfulness,†and Jenni Brandon, a recent Independent Music Award nominee will also contribute tunes. Finally, Third Wheel will perform a new arrangement of a work by Michigan-based composer Catherine McMichael.
Doors open at 3:30. Tickets are available for $20 in advance, and will be $25 at the door. Ticket price includes the entire concert and wine-tasting experience. At the concert, information will be provided about subscription tickets for the Wine & Wheels series 2011-12.
