Jennifer C. Terry Names Chair of Los Angeles Children’s Chorus

Jennifer C. Terry
Attorney Jennifer C. Terry has been named Chair of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus (LACC), one of the world’s foremost children’s choirs. The La Canada resident has served on LACC’s Board of Directors since 2009 and is parent of two LACC choristers. A partner in the Labor & Employment group at the law firm Arent Fox LLP in Los Angeles, Terry succeeds Joanne Crawford-Dunér.

“I am truly pleased by Jenny’s appointment,†says LACC Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson. “Her deep commitment to LACC, both as a dynamic and incisive Board member and as an LACC parent, combined with her passion, strategic vision and exceptional leadership qualities will be invaluable in guiding LACC’s continued growth. The families, staff and Board of LACC also acknowledge Joanne, her predecessor, with tremendous gratitude for her outstanding service.â€

“It is an honor to serve LACC in my new capacity as Chair,†says Terry. “The foundation of LACC’s phenomenal success and highly deserved international reputation is the exceptional training that Anne Tomlinson and her dynamic artistic staff provide LACC’s choristers. They spark in the young singers a passion for music while promoting healthy vocal techniques and fostering critical and transformative life skills. I look forward to working closely with the dedicated Board of Directors and staff to ensure LACC’s continued legacy of artistic excellence.â€

JENNIFER TERRY’s civil litigation practice focuses on management side employment defense, particularly in California involving disability, race, age, and gender discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment and wrongful termination. She is also the commercial advisor to the food division of a major confectionary manufacturer, and has significant experience drafting commercial contracts. Terry previously served as a federal district court law clerk to the Honorable J. Thomas Greene in the US District Court for the District of Utah and is fluent in Spanish.

LOS ANGELES CHILDREN’S CHORUS is acclaimed for its pure, agile, bel canto sound that has made it one of the most in-demand children’s choirs in the county. It has been lauded as “one of the world’s foremost children’s choirs†(Pasadena Star News), and described by critics as “hauntingly beautiful†(Los Angeles Times), “astonishingly polished†(Performances Magazine), “extraordinary in its abilities†(Culture Spot LA), and “one heck of a talented group of kids†(LA Weekly). Founded in 1986 and led by Artistic Director Anne Tomlinson since 1996, LACC’s roster includes more than 375 children ages 6 to 18 from more than 50 communities across Los Angeles in six choirs and First Experiences in Singing program. LACC performs with such leading organizations as LA Opera, LA Phil, Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, LA Master Chorale, Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, Pasadena Symphony and POPs, Jacaranda, MUSE/IQUE, and Calder Quartet, and has toured North and South America, Africa, China, Australia and Europe. It appears on the Los Angeles Master Chorale’s critically acclaimed Decca recording “A Good Understanding,†and Plácido Domingo’s Deutsche Grammophon recording “Amore Infinito” (“Infinite Love”). The subject of a trilogy of documentaries by Academy Award-winning filmmaker Freida Lee Mock, LACC is featured in the Academy Award-nominated Sing!, about a year in the life of the choir; Sing Opera!, documenting the production of LACC’s commissioned family opera Keepers of the Night; and Sing China!, chronicling its groundbreaking tour to China just prior to the Beijing Olympics. LACC has performed with John Mayer on NBC’s “The Tonight Show†and was featured on Public Radio International’s nationally syndicated show “From the Top,†among other credits. Open auditions for LACC take place each June. First Experiences in Singing is a non-auditioned program for 6-7 year olds that serves as an enriching and fun music introduction for children.
