The Los Angeles Dodgers would assure themselves of their second consecutive National League West championship with a victory over the San Francisco Giants tonight at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers increased their lead over San Francisco to 4 1/2 games with a 4-2 victory Tuesday night. The Dodgers have four games remaining, the Giants five.
Basketball Hall of Fame member Elgin Baylor will throw the ceremonial first pitch in celebration of his 80th birthday, which was on Sept. 16. Twins Bob and Mike Bryan, tennis’ top-ranked men’s doubles team, will throw an honorary first pitch.
U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Patricia Murray of Agoura Hills will be honored as the Veteran of the Game. She flies a C-130 J Super Hercules aircraft as an instructor with the U.S. Air National Guard and is an aerial fire fighting pilot for the 115th Airlift Squadron.
Murray has flown five tours of duty in the Middle East and has been awarded five flying air medals. She has been inducted into the Order of Daedalians, a flying organization formed during World War I, and been selected as the California Air National Guard Field Grade Officer of the Year.
Tim Leary, who won a career-high 17 games with the Dodgers’ 1988 World Series championship team, will sign autographs in the right field pavilion plaza from 5-7 p.m.
Matt Luke, an outfielder-first baseman with the Dodgers in 1998, will sign autographs in the left field pavilion plaza from 5-7 p.m.
All auto gates will open at 4:30 p.m. and all stadium gates at 5 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game, which concludes a three-game series.
