Soldier to be honored at tonight’s Dodger game

Dodger Stadium has been the Los Angeles Dodgers' home field since 1962.
Dodger Stadium has been the Los Angeles Dodgers’ home field since 1962.

U.S. Army Spc. Julio Ramirez will be honored as the Military Hero of the Game at tonight’s Los Angeles Dodgers-Miami Marlins game at Dodger Stadium.

Ramirez was deployed to South Korea in 2010, where he earned the Superior Unit Award for his efforts in response to a North Korean attack on a border island.

Ramirez is stationed at Fort Irwin in the Mojave Desert where he works to extend diplomatic courtesies and hospitality to foreign and domestic visiting leaders.

Jockey Victor Espinoza will throw the ceremonial first pitch, four days before he is scheduled to ride Kentucky Derby champion American Pharaoh in the Preakness Stakes, the second jewel in horse racing’s Triple Crown. Espinoza rode War Emblem and California Chrome to victories in both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness in 2002 and 2014.

Al Ferrara, an outfielder with the Dodgers in 1963 and 1965-68, will sign autographs in the left field pavilion plaza from 5-7 p.m.

Emily West, a 2014 finalist on the NBC series, “America’s Got Talent,” will sing the national anthem.

The first 40,000 fans will receive a Clayton Kershaw bobblehead, with a limited number of tickets remaining, a team official said.

Auto gates will open at 4:40 p.m. and stadium gates at 5:10 p.m. for the 7:10 p.m. game. Pregame ceremonies will begin at 6:55 p.m.
