Ten years ago, famed attorney Robert Shapiro and his wife Linell created the Brent Shapiro Foundation for Alcohol and Drug Awareness. This organization, founded in the memory of Shapiro’s son, Brent, is targeted to at-risk and underserved youth, and rewards sober students who graduate, with scholarships to college.
The elegant event was held at the Beverly Hills estate of billionaire Ron Burkle, and some of the VIP supporters in attendance included Kris Jenner, Corey Gamble, Berry Gordy, Tommy Lasorda, and Alan Thicke.
The event honored Rob Lowe, with the Spirit of Recovery Award, who delivered an impassioned speech about his own history of addiction. This handsome, hearty, and healthy actor serves as role model to those now undergoing similar experiences.
The sit-down dinner was created by Wolfgang Puck and featured such specialties as roasted beet salad, pan roasted Chicken, and buttermilk cake with strawberries and crème fraiche. There was also an extensive live auction, which included a trip to five-star resort, Cabo Azul; an opportunity for a one-to-one television interview with Larry King; and tickets to the 50th Superbowl on February 7 (including travel and accommodations).
All this, including entertainment by the inimitable Smokey Robinson! The best news is that $1.3 million was raised to win the battle against drug and alcohol dependency.
The bright and airy Fig & Olive in West Hollywood was the perfect setting for Doris Bergman’s 6th Annual Emmy Style Lounge and Party. Over 100 of Hollywood’s finest were on hand, including former Emmy nominated actors, former winners, stylists, and industry VIPs. The event, hosted by the Auto Gallery and Presented by Maserati, featured a fabulous array of fashion, jewelry, skincare, and gorgeous accessories.
Some of the nominees attending included Khandi Alexander (“Scandal”), Selinis Leyva and Catherine Curtin (“Orange is the New Black”), and Damien Whitewood (“Dancing with the Stars”). Former Emmy winners and nominees included Doris Roberts, DotMarie Jones (“Glee”), and my own favorite, “Nanny,” Renee Taylor.
Samia Fine Clothing, Telic Footwear, Rada watches, Spongelie, Art Lewin Bespoke Clothiers, and purse cases by the winner of “Shark Tank” provided some of the gifts and services.
Kudos to the effervescent Doris Bergman, the riveting redhead who delivered what she promised would be an afternoon of beauty, delicious fare, and a goodie bag that knocked my socks off.
