Fresh from the Edinburgh Fringe Festival where it earned five stars from Broadway Baby, internationally acclaimed Playbox Theatre presents the American premiere of Toby Quash’s powerful play, a strong physical and textual exposé of the shifting perspectives of paranoia.
THE FALLEN is part of the Playbox ongoing Conflict Cycle 2010-2011, exploring global conflict through re-workings of existing dramas, new projects and new plays. Says Quash, “When the coffins empty and the shadows of war loom closer than we can imagine, we shall see the best and worst in ourselves – when we, too, become the fallen, haunted by the ones that we have lost.†Directed by Emily Jane Quash, with design by Commedia, the USA cast includes Playbox Company members: George Wilson, Jo Whitty, Sian Maxwell, Lydia Atherton, Charlotte Merriam, Sam Johnson, Edward Sear, Jonathan Case, Ralph Davis, Helena Eccles, Claudia Musson, Scott Lenton, Minnie Crook, Meg Heaton, Holly Robinson, and Dominik Kurzeja.
THE FALLEN is supported by Arts Council England. This visit marks the 21st year of theatrical exchange between Santa Monica Playhouse and Playbox Theatre which has seen Playbox bring a host of original and unique projects to Santa Monica, among them: Goldoni’s “A Servant of Two Masters,†Garcia Lorca’s “Yerma,†the American Premiere of Ron Hutchinson’s “Believers,†the American Premiere of Anthony Burgess’ “A Clockwork Orange,†and “The White Album†– an original theatrical tribute with music to the Beatles.
