NCCC Team Continues Work By Mentoring and Tutoring in Local Schools

Members of the team are working at 61st Street, Marvin, and Coliseum Elementary Schools and Dorsey, Crenshaw High Schools to serve in Project Advance, the foundation of the organization, which as stated by CYFC, “focuses on the academic improvement and success of foster care and at-risk youth.†In addition, the team is creating a pilot newsletter that the organization will use to feature various student, site, and overall organization highlights.

CYFC serves over 4,000 youth at more than 25 sites in Los Angeles and Compton. Project Advance, while being the foundation of the organization, is only one program offered by CYFC. Other programs include STOP (Stand Together and Out for Peace), a program that is partnered with the LAPD and College Up, another program that is designed to assist students with the college admission process.

NCCC Corps Member Kristen Peacock, a recent college graduate with a Major in Elementary Education states, “I am very excited to experience, first-hand, the challenges, benefits, and rewards of working in a high needs school district.â€
