Actors’ Workshop at Santa Monica Playhouse

Unleash your creative self
“You make magic!†Connie Stevens tells director Chris DeCarlo, and you’ll find out why after only one 6-week session of Actors’ Workshop (AW), as you conquer the critic within, overcome competition fear, and have fun discovering your artist’s voice while unleashing your creative self in a unique theatre experience that gives you new insights into use of the creative process to enhance communication, explore inter-personal relationships and manage the challenges of daily living. Now celebrating its 50th anniversary, AW at Santa Monica Playhouse is the oldest continually-running acting workshop in L.A.

Founded in 1960 by actors Ted Roter, James Arness and Eric Braeden, it was ‘inherited’ by Playhouse Artistic Director DeCarlo in 1973 and is still personally taught by him Monday evenings throughout the year. An astounding and empowering exploration of the acting process, the AW method connects body, mind, and heart, combining physical theatre and improvisation in ways done nowhere else – offering skills which can be used by professional and non-professional, performer and non-performer alike. Students come from all walks of life and have included Broadway actors and television personalities, athletes, therapists, engineers, architects, sculptors, poets, university professors, teachers, a neurosurgeon and a Los Angeles District Attorney. Now enrolling for Spring Session I (Feb 7-March 14) and Session II (Apr 4-May 9). Acceptance is by personal interview only.

Actors’ Workshop meets Monday evenings from 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm. Tuition is only $200. For more information or to arrange an appointment, please call (310) 394-9779 ext. 3 or visit http://SantaMonicaPlayhouse.com.

By public transportation take the Santa Monica Blue Bus or the LA Metro Rapid #720, exit at 4th and Wilshire.
