INSIDE/OUTSIDE: Acting Classes for Kids

Learn acting skills while making friendsWant to get that special part in the school musical? Want to be called back for that commercial audition? Want to ace your screen test? Or maybe you’d like to make new friends, gain self-confidence and develop independent thinking. “What so exciting about this workshop,†says Playhouse Co-Artistic Director Chris DeCarlo, “is to see how theatre skills help young people blossom as creators and artists, whether or not they have professional career intent.â€

Kids 10 to 17 explore the world of acting in a whole new light as they learn to develop the inner life of the character while simultaneously gaining camera, audition and cold reading skills. Internationally acclaimed Actors’ Repertory Theatre artists lead the workshops, using improvisation, theatre games, text and performance art to help members discover Scene work and cold readingtheir own artistic voice, expand communication and imagination skills, overcome competition fear and conquer the critic within.

Students practice techniques that will help them not only be dynamite on stage or screen, but excel in classroom participation, be confident in one-on-one personal conversations and learn to be creative problem-solvers. Due to popular demand, the Playhouse has added this new Spring Session.

Inside/Outside is part of the Santa Monica Playhouse Education Conservatory Program. Alumni include Jason Ritter, Jason Segel, Shana Feste, Zoey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Rina Mimoun, and Cami Anderson, Newark Superintendant of Schools.
