Entrepreneur Kat Conway has founded, and will serve as CEO, of “The Scott, Bel-Air,†a new Recovery Retreat and boutique substance abuse rehabilitation center located within exclusive Bel-Air, CA.
The new center joins “The Scott, Hawaii,†a World Class Treatment Center in Hawaii, which has been cited by NEWSWEEK Magazine as “One of the top 15 addiction treatment centers in the United States.†Plans are also currently underway for Conway and her team to launch “The Scott, Europe†during 2012, most likely to be located at a castle within either England or France. Ms. Conway made the announcements in conjunction with September’s “National Recovery Month.â€
“The Scott, Bel-Air†and “The Scott, Hawaii†(www.the-scott.com ) are the first all-inclusive alcohol and drug treatment centers that offer a discreet, luxury, spa-like atmosphere merged with a non-invasive approach supported by top-level clinical experts, offering guests options. “The Scott’s†highly customized program is determined by each guest’s specific needs, and includes an intensive track of evidence-based and scientific-based proven models. Flying in world-renowned addiction experts to work with clients of “The Scott†is part of the all-inclusive service. After operating “The Scott, Hawaii†with a high success rate, Conway has now brought this approach to a private rehab retreat in Los Angeles.
Conway’s life mission was to launch “The Scott†as a means by which to help others overcome their addictions, dedicating the centers to her late fiancé, Scott J. Lavin, a renowned humanitarian and an heir to Alberto-Culver V05 fortune. Mr. Lavin passed away in 1998, after a battle with drug addiction.
A portion of the proceeds fees incurred at “The Scott†centers are earmarked for The Scott J. Lavin Foundation, a non-profit organization that has among its goals providing treatment for recovering alcoholics and drugs users who are located throughout The Hawaiian Islands.
Regarding the philosophy behind her centers, Conway says, “The idea behind ‘The Scott’ centers is that we are not offering an individual struggling with a life threatening addiction a ‘cookie cutter’ model. Each center is vastly private, confidential, secluded and created intentionally so that our guests can heal surrounded by nature, implementing the latest cutting-edge modalities, partnering with the finest addiction experts in the country, and creating a world class clinical care center with a Five Star hospitality flair. Collectively, our team has over 75 years of clinical care expertise and over 100 years of personal recovery. Our primary focus is to change the life of each guest, one at a time, and help them to achieve lifelong recovery. We want to see each of our guests become the person that they were meant to be — free from addiction and achieving their dreams.â€
She adds, “We are now branching out, and working successfully with private detox clients by flying in teams of experts to their location, and also working with pain management clients focusing on a holistic approach. Our After-Care Program lasts for one year, and is being met with even more success. As the CEO of ‘The Scott’ Centers, I am fortunate enough to be on the pulse of the unprecedented techniques that are scientifically proven to heal in the addiction and pain management field, such as translating Aerospace Therapies into the 21st Century for optimal brain fitness. It is a very exciting time for us. On another very important note, every guest of ‘The Scott’ is treated with a great deal of respect and dignity.â€
“The Scott’s†business and program consultant is Dr. Brigitte Lank, who is also the two-time former President of the Board of Directors for the National Council on Alcoholism and other Drug Addictions. Additionally, Dr. Lank has also launched and consulted on several other highly successful, high-end alcohol and drug rehabilitation centers, and frequently appears as an addiction specialist on ABC TV’s “Nightline†program.
Dr. Lank said, “The days of the privately owned, stand-alone treatment centers are a thing of the past, and have been taken over by larger holding companies and investor groups- corporatizing (and compromising) clinical care. ‘The Scott’ is privately owned, enabling all care to be clinically and recovery (not financially) driven. ‘The Scott’ individualizes care from assessment, diagnosis and treatment toward a life not only of sobriety, but of health, wellness and its integration. Treatment is ‘discharge driven,’ and ‘The Scott’ serves to ‘build the bridge’ between treatment (which consists of intensive and integrated therapies) and sustained recovery.â€
Lank adds, “While many treatment centers are externally profit driven, ‘The Scott’ is internally or process driven. Utilizing a Disease Model of Addiction as the backdrop to clinical treatment, the therapies available at ‘The Scott’ integrate traditional treatment within one’s larger spiritual, holistic and psychological well being. ‘The Scott’s’ treatment providers consist of a true multi-disciplinary staff from the fields of medicine, psychology and religion, integrating addiction treatment founded in research, implemented behaviorally and integrated spiritually. Plus, the exquisite locations of ‘The Scott’ in Hawaii and Bel-Air are conducive to creating a ‘recovery reference’ — these ‘retreat-like’ locales enable the integration of the treatment within a recovery experience. The goal of ‘The Scott’ is congruence between treatment and the heart-felt experience of recovery.â€
“The Scott†centers offer a variety of services that make them unique to other rehabilitation programs. “The Scott’s†all-inclusive lifelong way-of-life recovery success is supported by (a) the required 30-day Fast Track to recovery, led by a team of PhD addiction specialists and (b) a one-year monitored After-Care Program. Each location of “The Scott†is a proud member of the NAATP. “The Scott, Bel-Air†conveniently offers clinical care off-site while in the licensure process.
“The Scott’s†Comte Des Cierges service is available to clientele for all special needs and requests during recovery. From the lavish to the practical, “The Scott†nurtures a lifestyle reflecting wellness, also offering assistance with various tasks, such as financial, business and personal lifestyle management. No matter the request (excluding all alcohol and drug related substances), “The Scott†strives to provide a customized luxury experience. A Chef, specializing in organic gourmet cuisine, a personal trainer, and a butler are on-staff at each “Scott†center, with private jet services also available.
“The Scott, Bel-Air†is located on a lush 2.5 acres in the heart of Los Angeles, accommodates up to six people, and features an Outdoor Spa Area, a Cedar Sauna, a Theater Room, an Art Therapy Room, a Fitness Center equipped with a Techno-Gym, a Putting-Green, and a heated Outdoor Pool, while offering sweeping city views from almost every room on the property. World-renowned addiction experts with “Team Scott†include PhDs, PsyDs, medical doctors, psychiatrists, psychotherapists, marriage family therapists, registered nurses, and notable and certified Addiction Counselors, as well as other esteemed credentialed addiction professionals who have worked successfully with thousands of clients.
“The Scott’s†world class treatment standards advocate proven, non-invasive, scientific and evidence-based models, including: a 12-Step framework; the latest innovative cutting-edge therapies, such as neuro-behavioral therapy with a formally trained addiction specialist to end chronic relapse; Advanced Neurofeedback Technology Training called “The Scott Model†(the first highly focused treatment for addiction that is centered on the brain, where the disease of addiction lives); cognitive behavioral therapy; dialectical therapy; psychotherapy; group therapy, brain fitness and more. Non-traditional therapies, such as an age-old Hawaiian practice called Ho’Oponopono (a process for “making things right†with the world and your family); holistic expressive arts therapy to discover innate creative talents; horticultural therapy; mindful sea meditation; holistic healing; clinical hypnotherapy, and spiritual wellness addressing direction in life.
“The Scott’s†pricing is competitive, with financing available for this private pay facility. Costs vary depending on length of stay, and major credit cards are accepted. For more information, please visit www.the-scott.com.

About Substance Abuse & Addiction:
The Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences estimates that alcoholism and alcohol abuse in the United States cost society between $40 to $60 billion annually, due to lost production, health and medical care, motor vehicle accidents, violent crime, and social programs that respond to alcohol problems. Leonard Paulozzi of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has been quoted as saying, “Prescription drugs cause most of the more than 26,000 fatal overdoses each year.â€
In light of these statistics, as well as the recent “Drug Overdose Reduction Act†passed by the U.S. House Representatives, and in conjunction with “National Recovery Month,†Conway is more concerned than ever about helping people to achieve lifelong recovery in their lives.
