Against the Stream is pleased to welcome back Claude AnShin Thomas as a guest teacher at the Monday night class.
Compassion and forgiveness are topics of extreme importance and much conversation in our sangha and we have asked Claude AnShin to lend his wise voice to the mix.
Please don’t miss this opportunity to sit with a wise and truly dedicated teacher.
Claude AnShin Thomas was born in Pennsylvania in 1947. His childhood began his exposure to violence and abuse. At the age of 18 he volunteered to serve as a combat soldier in the Vietnam War. Today he states that he carries the responsibility for much death and destruction. After his return to the US, he experienced years of unemployment, social isolation and addiction.
He began to walk a Buddhist path in 1990 leading to his full ordination as a Zen Buddhist Monk into the Japanese Soto Zen Tradition in August of 1995.
Today Claude AnShin Thomas speaks publicly, leads retreats and meetings and address communities all over the world on the important topic of transforming cultures of violence. Thomas is the author of At Hell’s Gate: A Soldier’s Journey from War to Peace, and founder of the Zaltho Foundation, a nonprofit organization that promotes peace and nonviolence. zaltho.org
