High demand from local residents for easy access to the world famous Cookie Doctor has resulted in the opening of the first ever Cookie Diet Store in Beverly Hills.
Forget munching on carrot sticks to curb hunger, say the spokespeople for Dr. Siegal, who developed the quirky, attention-grabbing diet in 1975 — grab a cookie instead.
“There are thousands of people in the Los Angeles area, particularly Beverly Hills, Century City and Hollywood who buy Dr. Siegal’s Cookie Diet products on Cookiediet.com,†says president and CEO of Dr Siegal’s Direct Nutritionals, Matthew Siegal.
“We opened a store in Beverly Hills (on North Bedford Drive) to save them shipping and time costs.â€
According to the doctor, his diet has helped more than half a million people lose weight — without hunger.
“The structure is very simple,†says Dr Siegal who has been treating obesity since the late 1950s. “When you’re hungry, eat a cookie.â€
“In more than 500,000 patients, none have had any problems with rapid weight loss. It actually enhances motivation … it gets them to stick to the diet.â€

So how does eating cookies help one lose weight? WT had to find out, on behalf of sweet tooths everywhere, of course.
WT: This diet sounds quite gimmicky … eat six cookies a day and lose weight? How does it work?
DS: The diet calls for eating six hunger suppressing cookies a day and eating the cookies when you are hungry. You have to get that idea across — not when it’s time to eat but when you are hungry because that is what hunger really is for. Telling people when it’s time to eat. Then at the end of the day you get to eat a real dinner. We tell you what you can have. Lots of protein. Very little carbohydrate and no fat. About a 300 calorie dinner is what we recommend, but the diet will work with a higher calorie dinner. The secret is the way the cookies suppress appetite. To my knowledge, no other diet food does this. The cookies are truly hunger- suppressing and that’s what’s missing in all the other weight loss plans.
WT: Can anyone get success with the program?
DS: Any low calorie diet should be under the care of a physician. You have to be examined and found to be in good physical condition. We know from experience people who go to a doctor are more successful on a diet than those who don’t.
WT: The cookie ingredients are a secret?
DS: Yes, and there’s good reason for that. I’m so afraid of imitators. Imitators don’t know our formula and their cookies do not suppress hunger.
WT: How do I keep the weight off once I lose it?
DS: This is something I’m asked all the time. There is absolutely no relationship between losing weight on a diet and maintaining the weight loss. You are faced with the same problems after you lose weight. Your body doesn’t remember you went to see Dr. Siegal or went on Weight Watchers. If you revert back to your old habits you will gain weight back.
