All Four of Archer’s Varsity Teams Head to Playoffs

Softball

The Archer softball team posted a perfect 8-0 league record to capture their third straight league title and fifth in the last seven years. Along the way, 11th grade pitcher Kam Bellamy and 10th grade catcher Morgan Dennis continue their assault on the Archer record book. Bellamy recorded her 358th career strikeout on April 27th at home against Faith Baptist (Canoga Park), passing Carolyn Zaccaro (class of 2014) for first place on the all-time list.

Swimming

After finishing the Liberty League prelims with a dominant but not perfect performance, Archer swimmers readjusted their goggles and took it up yet another level at the UCLA SAC pool at the Liberty League finals on May 5. Having already qualified seven swimmers and three individuals for CIF-SS prelims, Archer wanted to avenge a 2nd place finish to Buckley (Sherman Oaks) in the 400yd freestyle relay at the league prelims. The jamming junior team of Claire Bardin, Summer DeVera, Claire Germano and Saskia Wong-Smith cut an astounding 18 seconds off their time from the league prelims to win first place en route to Archer’s third straight Liberty League Swimming Championship.

Track

While Archer may currently lack depth in distance runners and in some field events, the young sprinting stars scored enough points to rally the team to a third place finish at the Liberty League finals May 2 at Birmingham Highs School in Van Nuys. 9th grader Hailey Adams won first place in both the 100m and 400m and finished second to Archer 9th grader Nia Mosby in the 200m, while 10th grader Miaya South finished 3rd in the 400m and won first place in the pole vault with a 10 foot vault. The sprint party continued in the relays, as Mosby and Adams were joined by fellow 9th grader Lena Jones and junior Dominque White to crush Oakwood (North Hollywood) in the finals of the 4x100m relay. Sophomore Caitlin Chen joined South, Jones and anchor Mosby to win the 4x400m relay. Each of the six athletes mentioned have qualified for CIF-SS prelims, a school record.

Beach Volleyball

Archer’s deepest beach volleyball roster ever has led the team to a 3-5 record, finishing third out of the Westside Division and securing one of 24 spots in the 80-school Interscholastic Beach Volleyball League (IBVL) playoffs.
