The Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter will host its second annual “Memories in the Making,” an art showcase, sale, and evening of celebration this Thursday June 5 from 6 to 8 p.m.

It will be held at the JNA Gallery, which is located at the Bergamot Station Art Center at 2525 Michigan Avenue in Santa Monica.

The event will highlight original artwork created by individuals with Alzheimer’s and related dementias, whose creative expressions are rich with life, love, and emotion.

“Memories in the Making” allows those with memory loss disorders to explore their thoughts and feelings through art.

It provides a creative outlet for those struggling to communicate, allowing them to share emotions and create memories.  The resulting artwork is provocative, expressive, and speaks volumes to families, caregivers and the community.

Initiated in 1988, the program is offered in 24 states and four countries, serving an estimated 4,000 artists with dementia each year.  It is one of many programs offered by the Alzheimer’s Association, California Southland Chapter to serve the growing number of people with Alzheimer’s disease.

The event is free, but advance is RSVP required. To be placed on the guest list, email dsarmina@alz.org or 323.930.6280.

The evening will include the sale of selected artwork and note cards.

All proceeds benefit the Alzheimer’s Association California Southland Chapter to help those with the disease and their families, educate the public, and enable research for cure and better treatments.

Additionally, a portion of any JNA Gallery artwork sold during the evening will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association.

The California Southland Chapter “Memories in the Making” program is made possible through the generosity of Susan Disney Lord, Abigail Disney, Tim Disney, and Roy P. Disney in loving memory of their mother, Patricia Disney, who was an artist.
