April 26 is Quilting Day for Veterans

Santa Monica Quilt Guild and the Veterans Home of California in West Los Angeles will be hosting a Quilting Day for Veterans on April 26. (Image courtesy Santa Monica Quilt Guild)

The Santa Monica Quilt Guild will be making quilts at the West Los Angeles Veterans Home between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. this Saturday.

Veterans Home of California (West Los Angeles) director Brenda Manke will be joining 25 members of the Santa Monica Quilt Guild in the quilt-making event on April 26.

The Veterans Home of California—West Los Angeles is a 396-bed long-term care home for Veterans.  The levels of care include: assisted living, skilled nursing, an Alzheimer’s/memory care unit and a Transitional Housing Program for homeless Veterans.  It is one of eight Veterans Homes of California in the State.  For more information, please log on to the CalVet website at www.calvet.ca.gov.

The Santa Monica Quilt Guild was founded in 1990.  Some of their charter members are still active in the Guild. The Santa Monica Quilt Guild is a member of the Southern California Council of Quilt Guilds.  The goals of the Santa Monica Quilt Guild are to further quilting enjoyment and expertise through educational programs and friendships, and to promote philanthropic endeavors through quilting.

A non-profit organization and 501(c)(3) public charity, membership to the Santa Monica Quilt Guild is open to anyone interested in learning more about the art of quilt making. They welcome quilters of all skill levels. Guild meetings are held monthly on the first Wednesday evening of the month at the First United Methodist Church, Simkins Hall, 1008 11th Street, Santa Monica, at 6:30 p.m.

The Veterans Home of California (West Los Angeles) is located at 11500 Nimitz Avenue in Los Angeles and is located on the campus of the West Los Angeles Veterans Hospital, north of Wilshire Boulevard.
