Thirty years of research by Ernest Marquez has informed this at times incredible tale of floating gambling halls, mobsters, murder and mayhem at the three-mile limit off the coast of early 20th century Santa Monica. This ‘true crime’ story follows the decade-long battle between Tony Cornero, king of the rumrunners, and eager law enforcement officials bent on cleaning up corruption. Marquez next plans to write a history of his family – the 19th century owners of the Mexican Rancho Boca de Santa Monica land grant. Noir Afloat is published by Angel City Press.
