BEAUTY: Maintaining Your Style on a Budget

In Los Angeles, the world of beauty is an affordable luxury that can be experienced in many different ways. Steve has a long list of helpful hints for the New Year on how to maintain a modern, stylish look without draining your wallet.

There are many creative ways to maintain and expand your hair color and styling techniques.

Steve recommends products that keep hair healthy to give color longevity and spread out time between visits to the salon. Quality hair care is your insurance in protecting and preserving your hair color and the integrity of your hair. With hair color, most people feel their color fades within a couple of weeks. But with a sulfate/paraben free shampoo and conditioner, the cuticle layer of hair stays closed and the color molecule stays in tact, preventing color loss. Conditioning treatments can go a long way in preserving color and the quality of your hair. These treatments can be done in salon or at home. Proper hair care can extend your color service visits to the salon.

Steve also touts the benefits of demi-permanent hair color, available at any salon, that allows for a test drive of a new color and are often less expensive. Demi-permanents are also great to refresh your color in between visits.

When you’re creating dimensional color with highlights, work with your stylist about adding a few at a time. Partial highlights usually are cost-effective and create exciting dimension.

When it comes to your hair style, the simplest modifications to your cut can change and refresh your look. Whether a change of angle in your bang or a few layers for movement. Styling crèmes and molding pomades help define, separate and give you the power to always have a versatile style.

With any of your beauty treatments, talk with your professional. Most stylists are willing to work out a plan, suggest home treatments and lay out initial and maintenance costs.
