Beverly Hills High School has hired a new assistant principal to replace Amy Golden, who left in July. Kelly Tabis, of Santa Monica Malibu Unified, will be replacing her.
Tabi has been teaching Intensive Studies at Santa Monica High School since 2004. She holds a Masters of Education in Administration from Loyola University, Chicago.
The school board voted 3-2 for the new vice principal, with Steven Fenton and Dr. Brian Goldberg voting against.
Fenton was quoted as saying, “Employees of the district were not given an opportunity to compete for the position,†citing low moral in the district.
Dr. Goldberg was concerned about the BHUD becoming a “stepping stone†district, versus a “destination†district.
Of 86 applicants, seven were interviewed, though none were current district employees. The applicants were reviewed by the administration and a panel of PTA members, and subjected to approval by the school board.
