California Home and Garden Retailer Expands Despite the Tough Economy

With the spirit that pioneered its first location opening more than 75 years ago during the depths of the Great Depression, Orchard Supply Hardware (OSH) will open new stores in Fairfield and Santa Rosa, Calif. this September, during the toughest retail economy since 1931. OSH sees these areas as growing markets that will respond to its legendary customer service and value.
We are very excited to open stores in Fairfield and Santa Rosa. Both communities have given OSH tremendous support, and we look forward to assisting residents with all of their home improvement and garden needs, said Rob Lynch, President and CEO of OSH.
The Fairfield OSH store brings renewed life to 1500 Oliver Road, the site of a former Yardbirds location. OSH completely remodeled the 38,000-square-foot store, which opened for business earlier this month, upgrading the exterior faade, renovating the interior and expanding the garden center.
In Santa Rosa, OSH renovated a 28,000-square-foot space at 2230 Cleveland Ave. to give it a completely new look. OSH talked to its customers and listened to their suggestions in designing the new look to the store that features a warm dcor and an easy-to-navigate layout. The Santa Rosa store will open on Thursday, September 24th..
The new OSH stores will bring a combined 140 to 160 new jobs to the communities of Fairfield and Santa Rosa. New hires include sales associates and cashiers, department leads, pick-up and receiving associates and clerk/auditors.
OSH has a rich heritage, starting as a cooperative of 30 farmers in what became Silicon Valley who got together to share the cost of ladders, tree trimmers, apricot knives, pails and other tools for tending their fruit orchards. OSH now offers 45,000 items for home and garden, from power tools and paint to plants with the OSH lifetime guarantee.
The Fairfield and Santa Rosa OSH stores will each celebrate their Grand Openings with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, October 10, as well as giveaways to the first 200 customers in line, an appearance by HGTVs Color Splash co-host Danielle Hirsch and the chance to win prizes throughout the weekend. A special sale event will take place that weekend at all 88 OSH store locations, featuring reduced prices on everything in the store, helping shoppers to stretch their budgets even further.
