Celebrity Trainer Receives Resolution From L.A. City Council President, Eric Garcetti
July 30, 2009–City Council President, Eric Garcetti, will be presenting Michael Torchia, founder of Operation Fitness with a resolution from the City of Los Angeles for his work as a health expert and his Shape Up America Campaign. Torchia will receive this resolution marking August 1st, 2009 as an official “Health And Fitness Day” in Los Angeles. The presentation will take place on Friday, July 31st, 2009, 10:00 – 10:30am.
Obesity is one of the leading causes of death in this country, it is estimated that an obese person spends $1,400 more in medical expense per year than normal-weight people. Obesity-related diseases cost this nation between $86 to $147 billion per year. Enter Operation Fitness. Operation Fitness is a health organization created in 1985. It was designed to teach people of all ages proper exercise and good eating habits, culminating in a healthier lifestyle. The all-around effect is an equal balance of feeling good mentally, emotionally and physically.
The ceremony will be held in the Council Chambers, Room 340, City Hall downtown at 200 N. Spring Street, L.A., CA 90012. Council President Garcetti will speak, followed by Operation Fitness founder and president, Michael Torchia.
Operation Fitness will host a free health and family fitness expo Saturday August 1, 2009, 10:00 am – 3:00 pm at Westwood Park, 1350 South Sepulveda Boulevard. Free fitness forums, classes, and health product giveaways will be featured at this event that is co-sponsored by Whole Foods, Smartwater, Gold’s Gym, Equinox, American Diabetes Association, MS Society, American Red Cross and over 60 other participating sponsors.
