Center for the Art of Performance Season On Sale June 26

UCLA
As the season progresses, the Center will announce additional Art in Action programs that invite the campus community and all audiences to more closely participate with the artists and ideas of the 2015-2016 through free pre-performance events and activities as well as additional art-making and free public programs throughout the season.

Individual tickets for all upcoming Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA) performances go on sale June 26, 2014. Tickets may be purchased via cap.ucla.edu, Ticketmaster or directly through the UCLA Central Ticket office at 310.825.2101.

The 2015-2016 CAP UCLA season features performers from around the world in music, theater, dance and spoken word. The season kicks off early this year with the August 13 performance of Los Angeles favorite Buddy Guy plus L.A.-based rock trio The Record Company, setting the stage for  a stellar lineup of concerts in roots, blues, jazz, global and contemporary music.

Theater programming begins October 8 with “Desdemona,” a reimagining of Shakespeare’s Othello as told from the perspective of the female characters. It is directed by Peter Sellars and written by Toni Morrison and Malian singer-songwriter Rokia Traoré, who also performs the role of Barbary, alongside Tina Benko’s Desdemona. The season’s first dance performances Oct. 16-17return Japan’s seminal Butoh company Sankai Juku to Los Angeles, with “UMUSUNA—Memories Before History,” conceived directed and choreographed by the beloved and influential Ushio Amagatsu. Spoken word begins Oct. 17 with an enigmatic social experiment and experience in community-building from the one-and-only Miranda July.

As the season progresses, the Center will announce additional Art in Action programs that invite the campus community and all audiences to more closely participate with the artists and ideas of the 2015-2016 through free pre-performance events and activities as well as additional art-making and free public programs throughout the season.

Changes to the previously announced program include the cancellation of Cassandra Wilson: “Coming Forth by Day—A Tribute to Billy Holiday,” originally scheduled for Friday October 9. It will not be rescheduled and refunds are available to series subscribers who purchased a subscription that included this performance.
