I remember reading “A Separate Peace” in 8th grade and marveling at a paragraph where one of the main characters, Gene, the one who goes to war as I recall, sees a fellow — either a Devon classmate or another enlistee — loose his sanity right in front of him. While I can’t remember the exact verbiage nor find it during a Google search, I remember the feeling of horror the young boy-man must’ve felt watching as a fellow human being breaks because of the stress of WWII.
This made me horrified by all war and still does: a reasonable reaction to the human toll all war takes, no matter how noble the cause which sent the young men and women into battle.
While Charlie Sheen by virtue of his acting ability is far better at self-mockery and monetizing his breaking he is never-the-less unraveling in front of our eyes.
Yes, this video, made for Funny or Die is funny — it also portends a man on a deadly path toward self destruction; let’s hope he gets help before taking someone innocent along with him down his personal vortex.
