What goes on in Eddie Ramone’s mind as he tells jokes to the audience? Irish actor/writer/director Chris Sullivan’s compelling new play examines the tragicomic and complicated personality of an established comedian as he strives to overcome personal tragedy and scandal.
Always fascinated by the life of comedians and the vast difference between their on and off stage personae, Sullivan has seen many a comedian sitting in the corners of bars talking to nobody. The 2 Sides of Eddie Ramone explores this dichotomy.
This world premiere will play for three performances only before making its European debut at the Edinburgh Festival and will be Sullivan’s Los Angeles swan song as he moves back to the U.K. this summer.
Over the past ten years, Sullivan, whose critical acclaim ranges from “Superb!†(LA WEEKLY) to “First rate!†(Backstage West) to “Warm…tender… heartbreaking…bold… poetic and profound…!†(American Radio Network), has often delighted Playhouse audiences, most notably as the lovable scoundrel Basil opposite Louise Sorrell in Brenda Krantz’s “Lovely,†in the long-running “A Bit of Irish†and the internationally acclaimed “Irish Eyes.â€
“Eddie Ramone†sees Sullivan bring alive yet another fascinating character to delight and move L.A. audiences. Rated NC-17. Friday & Saturday June 17 & 18 at 8:00pm; Sunday, June 19 at 6:30 pm
