Circus performers Versus the Global Economic Meltdown!

July 18, 2009–The eight badass ladies from Chicago of Aloft’s El Circo Cheapo Cabaret have the looks and skills of team of superheros, bound and determined to bring world-class circus back to the people. What kind of person can shell out over $100 a ticket to see Cirque du Soleil these days? No one we know! So here we are, driving around the country in a van, 7 of the worlds best acrobats and one intrepid stand up comedian/ring-mistress, busting our butts for low pay and high acclaim to bring you, the people, the down-trodden, the evicted, the entertainment-deprived, a show packed to the gillsa circus so close, you can see us bleed!

El Circo Cheapo Cabaret is the poor-man’s Cirque du Soleil, a glimmer of entertainment salvation in a bleak economic world. Developed in Chicago in 2008, El Circo Cheapo set out to provide an outstanding circus show at a fraction of the cost that other shows charged, bringing the artistry of circus again to the people. Circus has always stepped up to bring joy and wonder to people with little other hope, and El Circo does this not only for the audience, but for the performers as well. You can see in their faces, so close you could sometimes touch them, that they are working very hard at the one thing they truly love. The El Circo Cheapo
Cabaret Get Rich Slow tour strives to bring the magic of our original show to people around the country, playing intimate venues (100-200 seats), public parks, street festivals and anywhere else that puts us practically in the laps of our audience.

The eight women in El Circo Cheapo perform an hour and a half long show that incorporates outstanding aerial acts
of the highest skill level and choreographic originality, dizzying hula hooping, darling acrobatics, and manipulating manipulation, all tied together by one of the country’s top
female comedians, Cameron Esposito, our intrepid MC! El Circo Cheapo Cabaret’s Get Rich Slow tour is a show for our times, showing what people can do with elbow grease and passion, even in the bleakest of economies.

The artists of El Circo Cheapo aren’t bankers moonlighting as aerialists or Burning-man hippy hobbyists. We are seasoned circus artists who have performed all over the world. El Circo gives us the chance to show our skills without the restraints and expectations of corporate sponsorship or micro-managing directors. This is circus as it has always been intendedpowerful, dangerous, painful, hilarious and passionate. These are our acts, straight from our minds and bodies, as creative and original as they come. You wont see a show like this anywhere else. From the opening song and dancewhich the audience is invited to learn on our website in advance, and join us on stage forto the girl who literally hangs from a rope by her toes, to the Ring Mistress’s gut splitting comedic timing, to a naked hula hooping Australian, you’ll never look at the circus the same way again. Seriously. We swear.

The only thing cheap about this show is the price. With tickets priced at $25, how on earth can you go wrong? Plus, join in our pull up contest and one lucky person at each show will get in free. We like to reward big muscles.
