Dancers from the New York City Ballet to Perform This Summer for Malibu’s Concert on the Bluffs

The City of Malibu presents its inaugural Concert on the Bluffs live outdoor music event on Sunday, June 12, 2016 at Bluffs Park. Featuring musicians from the Malibu Coast Chamber Orchestra and players from the Los Angeles Philharmonic and Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, this isn’t your everyday symphony experience. Special guest artists from New York City Ballet will dance against the stunning backdrop of Malibu’s iconic coastline and mountains.

The performances by four members of the New York City Ballet are made all the more special by welcoming former Malibu resident Indiana Woodward home to dance. Indiana is a member of the Corps de Ballet in the New York City Ballet and is thrilled to be coming back to perform in her hometown.

“I am very excited to be coming home to Malibu with a few of my friends from the New York City Ballet,” Woodward said. “It’s so great to see Malibu support the arts in this way. The arts bring people together, especially the universality of music and dance. It needs no language translation. It connects us to each other and to a place outside yourself. To dance on the outdoor stage on the edge of the bluffs with a world class symphony makes me very proud of my hometown.”

Indiana’s extensive career started at age 10, training at the Yuri Grigoriev School of Ballet in Venice, California. She began studying at the School of American Ballet, the official school of the New York City Ballet in 2010. That year, she won first place in the Bolshoi Ballet Academy Summer Intensive in New York City and was invited to perform at the Bolshoi Ballet Academy gala in Moscow. In 2012, she joined the New York City Ballet.

Indiana and other dancers from the New York City Ballet will dance to classical pieces and pop music.

Guests are encouraged to bring picnic baskets and blankets or beach chairs. The City-sponsored event takes place Sunday, June 12 at 4:30 PM at Malibu Bluffs Park, located at 24250 Pacific Coast Highway and Malibu Canyon Rd.

General admission tickets are $25; $15 for students and seniors; and free for children 5 and under. Parking is available on Malibu Canyon Rd. and at Malibu City Hall (23825 Stuart Ranch Rd., Malibu) with free shuttle service that starts at 3pm and runs till 7pm. Tickets can be purchased online at http://bit.ly/CONCERTonBLUFFS or in person at Malibu Bluffs Park and Malibu City Hall. For more information, call (310) 456-2489 ext. 349.
