Del Mano Gallery presents Flora & Fauna

Del Mano Gallery is pleased to present Flora & Fauna
• Exhibition of works in wood inspired by nature
• Opening August 22 through September 19, 2009.

Since ancient times, artists have been inspired by the world around them.
Flora & Fauna highlights the endeavors of innovative artists whose work is a reflection of nature. Their inspirations vary from microscopic marine life, to the subtle decay of foliage as the seasons change, to the fantasy and mystery nature can evoke. The artists selected for Flora & Fauna create work that is uniquely their own, and many have developed specialized techniques to achieve their vision. Their environments may vary because they come from all over the globe, but they share a sensitivity and respect for nature’s wonders. Included in Flora & Fauna are artists: Dixie Biggs, Florida, Satoshi Fujinuma, Japan, Anthony Gauslin, California, Louise Hibbert, Virginia, Michael Hosaluk, Canada, Janel Jacobson, Minnesota, Ron Layport Pennsylvania, Michael Lee, Hawaii, Alain Mailland, France, Gordon Pembridge, New Zealand, Binh Pho, Vietnam, Tania Radda, Arizona, JoeyRichardson, England, Jacques Vesery, Maine, Molly Winton, Washington, and Andi Wolfe, Ohio.

The above images are fashioned from a solid piece of Maple, Ron Layport’s “Spirits of Light†was inspired by a swarm of dragonflies. His expert use of pigment captures the soft colors of the dragonflies at dusk. English artist Joey Richardson studied under master turner, Binh Pho. In her words she incorporates “the delicate and beautiful, as well as, the big and bold, fully encapsulating wood’s tactile beauty.†Richardson’s “Filly†fully realizes her intentions. Alain Mailland is a French abstract artist who brings a sense of fantasy to his work. “Waves†is fashioned from a single piece of Pistachio
