Dodgers to Celebrate Cuban Heritage Day

DodgersThe Los Angeles Dodgers will celebrate Cuban Heritage Day at today’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers at Dodger Stadium, with all their Cuban and Cuban-American players participating in the Viva Los Dodgers festival.

All-Star catcher Yasmani Grandal will take photos with fans from 11- 11:30 a.m. Outfielder Alex Guerrero will take pictures with fans from 11:30 a.m.-noon.

Outfielder Yasiel Puig will greet fans on stage from 11:30 a.m.-noon and join relief pitcher Paco Rodriguez in taking part in a question-and-answer session with fans.

One complimentary photo per family or group will be provided.

Viva Los Dodgers will also include Dodger scout Mike Brito, who discovered Fernando Valenzuela, meeting and greeting fans at noon. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Arsenio Rodriguez Project and Buena Onda.

The Gavina family, owners of Gavina Coffee will receive a community hero award from the Dodgers at Viva Los Dodgers.

The Cuban Dog will be available at Viva Los Dodgers. It is a quarter- pound all-beef hot dog topped with ham, pulled pork, Swiss cheese, yellow mustard and pickle chips.

Viva Los Dodgers begins at 11:10 a.m. at Dodger Stadium’s 76 station.

Also in connection with Cuban Heritage Day, music mogul and 19-time Grammy winner Emilio Estefan will throw the ceremonial first pitch. Deputy Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, a Beverly Hills High School alumnus, will throw an honorary first pitch.

Stacy Francis, a cast member of the TVOne series “R&B Divas: Los Angeles,” will sing the national anthem.

Derrel Thomas, an infielder-outfielder on the Dodgers’ 1981 World Series championship team, will sign autographs in the left field pavilion plaza from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

As with most Sunday home games, children 14 and under can run around the bases following the game. The first 15,000 ticketed children ages 14 and under in attendance will receive a kids’ hamper.

Auto gates will open at 10:40 a.m. and stadium gates at 11:10 a.m. Pregame ceremonies will begin at 12:55 p.m. for the 1:10 p.m. game.
