SBMA’s show will highlight Corot’s development as an artist, from his first views of Rome to his late, delicately-painted landscapes, both real and ideal.
Corot grew up in a comfortable home in Anvers and remained there for his entire career. Corot was 26 before he got the courage to pursue a career in painting. Although he was shy and awkward for his entire life, his talent grew and he became a leading painter of the Barbizon School of France in the mid 18th Century.
Santa Barbara Museum of Art, 1130 State Street in Santa Barbara. Open Tuesday – Sunday 11 am to 5 pm. Closed Mondays. Free every Sunday.
