Gumbiner Savett’s Savoy Joins California Board of Accountancy

Gumbiner Savett Managing Director Michael Savoy, CPA, has been appointed to the California Board of Accountancy (CBA), the entity that regulates the state’s accounting profession for the public interest. Savoy’s appointment was one of Governor Schwarzenegger’s final acts before his term ended.

“I am honored to have been appointed to an organization as important and prestigious as the California Board of Accountancy,†Savoy said. “I look forward to helping to ensure that consumers are well informed and receive quality accounting services from licensed accountants.â€

The CBA’s mission is to protect consumers by ensuring that only qualified licensees practice public accountancy in California in accordance with established professional standards. In his new role, Savoy will work toward regulating the accounting profession for the public interest by establishing and maintaining entry standards of qualification and conduct within the accounting profession. He will also serve on the legislative committee of the CBA.

In addition to being a newly appointed member of the CBA, Savoy serves on the Executive Board and the Finance Committee of the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce and is the Chairman of the Americas Region Board of BKR International. Additionally, he is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) Association and the California Society of Certified Public Accountants (CalCPA).

As managing director of Gumbiner Savett, Savoy services clients in the apparel, textile, aerospace, manufacturing, distribution, real estate and importing industries. He specializes in providing audit and financial reporting for privately held entities, tax planning and compliance, succession planning and exit strategies.
