Halloween Delight for the Middle-Aged Gal

The Magician Behind the Healing Lights: Sara Turbeville
As a peri-menapausal woman life can be scary — and not just on Halloween! It’s a horror that my battle for good, 40+ skin must be fought on two fronts; crow’s feet and pimples, where is the justice?

Well, I haven’t found justice but… I have found a justifiable treatment at Skin in Santa Monica that actually helps fight the hands of time as they make their negative marks on my face. The Le Mieux Light Fusion Treatment featuring LED lights and ultrasound combines the best of old and new facial wisdom to create demonstrably better skin.

The light and lovely magic – aka LED facial — happens in the beauty lair of Sara Turbeville nestled in a tree filled duplex in Santa Monica.

After a gentle cleansing Turbeville applies Le Mieux’s Vitamin C serum, “it’s a powerful antioxidant in a hydrating base to zap damaging free radicals and lessen sun damage†, said Turbeville as she wheels the triptych of light toward me. Show time: the LED (light emitting diode) machine is positioned close to my face. “The technology was originally developed by NASA so that astronauts stationed in space for months at a time could grow fresh vegetables. As they discovered the stellar [or inter-stellar as the case may be] effect this particular light had on the veggies research began on how its cellular rejuvenating powers could be used elsewhere. Of course, eventually, this technology came to the beauty industry,†said the beautiful southern belle whom I was discovering is in fact a skin geek.

When I ask her if she watched a lot of “Star Trek†as a kid she laughed then explained that her love of all things skin didn’t light up her life until she had graduated with a BA in communications. “I worked part time at the cosmetics counter at a local Nashville department store to supplement my income and found the job blasé. But, when I got the transferred to a skincare counter, I found my passion,†said the well-traveled charmer as pulled the three-paneled machine, which had pulsed light on my face for 20 minutes, away and began the next phase of treatment.

“If repeated over a period of time, this treatment can reduce hyper pigmentation, spider veins and crow’s feet conditions. That’s right. LED treatment can legally claim to reduce – not just reduce the appearance of – but actually reduce crow’s feet,” said Turbeville as she fitted what she calls “virtual heath food for the skin, Le Mieux’s Bio-Cell+ mask. I felt a bit Hannibal Lecter-esque. With her easy laugh, Turbeville assures me that my flesh is being manipulated for good not masticated upon as she starts to massage my face with her ultrasound wand.

“The ultrasound further increases the penetration of the serums from the mask,” she adds, citing the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, which recently observed significantly improved aesthetic results when new skincare product formulations are used in conjunction with ultrasound, which allows for deeper penetration of topically applied rejuvenating agents into the skin.

Turbeville completes the 35 minute treatment by applying moisturizers, a tiny amount of mineral foundation (a great product from a line I’d never heard of but which I purchased from Turbeville and now wear constantly) and went to a ‘mom’s night out’ tequila confessional where several mother’s complimented my skin and took down Turbeville’s information.

So, while I will continue to lament the ravages of ever-changing hormones and life on my skin at least I can revel in the wisdom gained in living – and give it a better spit and polish thanks to Skin Santa Monica and Le Mieux.
