Addictive behaviors are often a response to emotional wounds and trauma, and addiction itself has a traumatizing effect. Healing these wounds is one of the great challenges in recovering from addiction of any kind.
This one day retreat will be devoted to working with Buddhist practices that can support this process. The teachings will explore forgiveness, loving, kindness, compassion, joy, and equanimity. We will use formal meditation practices as well as contemplative and interactive exercises to cultivate these healing qualities. Lecture and discussion will focus on connecting Buddhist practices with 12 Step work as well as questions about meditation technique.
This day is open to all those who are interested. You need not be in a 12 Step program nor have a background in Buddhist meditation. The day will include introductory meditation instructions. Beginners are welcome.
