INSIDE/OUTSIDE: Acting for Camera and Stage for Kids 10 to 17

Want to ace the screen test, get the part in the school musical, be called back for the commercial, see yourself on camera? Want to make new friends, gain self-confidence and develop independent thinking?

“It’s exciting to see theatre skills help young people blossom as creators and artists whether or not they have professional career intent,†says Playhouse Co-Artistic Director Chris DeCarlo. Kids 10 to 17 explore the world of acting in a whole new light as they learn to develop the inner life of the character, simultaneously gaining on-camera, audition and cold reading skills.

Internationally acclaimed Actors’ Repertory Theatre artists lead the classes, using improvisatiSarai Jimenez, Axel Sullivan and Mary Cruz study relationships; photo: Cydne Mooreon, theatre games, text and performance art to help members discover their artistic voice, expand communication and imagination skills, overcome competition fear and conquer the critic within.

Students practice techniques that help them not only be dynamite on stage or screen, but excel in classroom participation, be confident in one-on-one personal conversations and learn to be creative problem-solvers. Inside/Outside is part of the Santa Monica Playhouse Education Conservatory Program.

Alumni include Kate Hudson, Jason Ritter, Jason Segel, Shana Feste, Zoey Deschanel, Emily Deschanel, Rina Mimoun, Mickey Madden and Cami Anderson, Newark Superintendant of Schools. Now enrolling for Spring.
