Lora Schlesinger Gallery is pleased to announce Kimberly Merrill’s first solo exhibition, “Unleashed.” A series of modern dog paintings in the spirit of the 19th century European dog painters.
The show opens with an artist’s reception on Saturday April 25th from 5-7 and remains on view until June 6, located at 2525 Michigan Avenue, T3 Santa Monica, CA.
“Unleashed” presents portrait paintings–which happen to be dogs. Soulfully painted, Merrill portrays dogs not as one-dimensional sterotypes but as unique, domesticated, individuals with dignity.
Suvan Greer writes, “She manages to rattle our preconceived notions of canine subjectivity, and raise questions about how we know what a dog feels like. Makes them pretty tricky little dog pictures.”
Kimberly Merrill recieved her MFA at the Laguna College of Art and Design. She recently donated a comissioned dog portrait to the Genesis Awards.
