The Twilight Dance Series Will Pay Tribute to The La Monica Ballroom In Celebration Of The Santa Monica Pier’s Centennial Anniversary. The original experience of the historic La Monica Ballroom, the largest ballroom in the world, built 85 years ago, will be recreated on the Santa Monica Pier with a huge dance floor and stage that will host Johnny Vana & The Big Band Alumni and famed swing band, the Squirrel Nut Zippers. The dance celebration will feature alumni who had actually danced in the La Monica Ballroom and expert dance instructors that will provide free lessons to anyone who wants to experience what La Monica was in its heyday. Following the Big Band sounds of Johnny Vana, the Squirrel Nut Zippers will bring 85 years of history into the present with their modern take on swing. La Monica Ballroom Redux is one of a series of events celebrating the Santa Monica Pier’s Centennial on September 9, 2009.
