In the midst of springtime celebrations and June graduations, Las Madrinas announced the 29 families and their daughters who will be honored for their service to the Southern California community and Children’s Hospital Los Angeles at the Las Madrinas Ball on Wednesday, December 21, 2011.
Among the Debutantes are: Caroline Jones Workman, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Christian Workman (Los Angeles); Lucy Elizabeth Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Holmes Davis, junior (Los Angeles); and Justine Alexandra Daisy McGregor, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Thomas McGregor (Santa Monica). Also honored, but unavailable for the photograph are: Alexa Robyn Beyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert David Beyer (Los Angeles); and Lucy Harrison Maybank, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bayard Randolph Maybank (Los Angeles).
On May 11, 2011, the Debutante families gathered at the Saban Research Institute of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to meet with, and hear a presentation by Dr. Theodora Stavroudis, Director of the Las Madrinas Endowment for the Pediatric Simulation Research Laboratory. Simulation provides a controlled environment that
recreates real†life patient care settings, such as a pediatric hospital room or operating room. Within this recreated environment, a lifelike but artificial “patient†is wired and manipulated to manifest real and evolving medical conditions.
The Debutantes, their mothers and their grandmothers were guests of honor at a Tea given by Las Madrinas at the home of Mrs. John William Given (Margaret) on June 8, 2011. The President of Las Madrinas, Mrs. Gary Allen Darnell (Katie)
formally welcomed the families and thanked them for their contributions and commitment to the Los Angeles community. Among the Las Madrinas members greeting the Tea guests were Debutante Chairman, Mrs. Victor Follen Hawley
(Diane) and Ball Chairman, Mrs. Stephen Konrad Algermissen (Liz). Las Madrinas has supported pediatric medicine for over 75 years.
