LOS ANGELES CHAMBER ORCHESTRA AND KUSC 91.5 FM ANNOUNCE BROADCAST SERIES FEATURING EIGHT CONCERTS FROM LACO’S 2010-11 ORCHESTRAL SERIES

Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra (LACO) and Classical KUSC 91.5 FM have partnered for an eight-week broadcast series that features concerts from LACO’s 2010-11 Orchestral Series at the Alex Theatre and UCLA’s Royce Hall as well as its Baroque Conversations series at Zipper Concert Hall. The weekly two-hour broadcasts, designed to showcase the exceptional artistry of LACO and its musicians, run Sundays, 4-6 p.m., through November 13, 2011. Hosted by KUSC’s Alan Chapman, the broadcast is supported, in part, by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors through the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and by the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs.

The series began September 25 with a program conducted by Julian Kuerti, featuring Leila Josefowicz, violin, and works by Mendelssohn, Prokofiev, Pierre Jalbert and Haydn. On October 2, featured artists are conductor Michael Stern and two LACO principals, Joshua Ranz, clarinet, and Andrew Shulman, cello, with the Orchestra displaying its versatility in Wolf, Schumann, Kellogg and Golijov. The October 9 broadcast spotlights as conductor and pianist Ignat Solzhenitsyn and works by Mozart, Lutoslawski and Haydn. LACO’s acclaimed Baroque Conversations series, exploring the genesis of orchestral repertoire from early Baroque schools through the pre-classical period, is showcased on the October 16 broadcast. Conductor Louis Langrée and pianist Lise de la Salle are featured in a program of Ravel, Saint-Saëns and Beethoven on October 23. LACO Music Director Jeffrey Kahane leads an all-Bach concert broadcast on October 30 with guest artist Sasha Cooke, mezzo-soprano. Kahane conducts Jon Kimura Parker, piano, in Beethoven’s “Emperor,†as well as works by John Harbison and Dvorák on November 6. The broadcast series concludes November 13 with a program of Mendelssohn, Derek Bermel and Mozart led by Kahane, who is also featured on piano, with guest soloists Margaret Batjer, LACO’s concertmaster, and vocalist Luciana Souza. (A full list of programs to be broadcast is included below.)
